To make soft breadcrumbs just cut bread into pieces or slices and add them to a food processor, you can make them as fine as you would like or keep them more coarse textured, by reducing or extending the processing time.
For dry combs after cubing or slicing the bread we bake it of about 10 minutes at 320 degree or until bread start to turn brown. Remove from oven and let rest and cool for at least 15 minutes, then place into a food processor and blend until you have your perfect homemade dry-breadcrumbs.
Now the above directions are to make unflavored homemade breadcrumbs, however you can add your favorite spices into the food processor to make the breadcrumbs as flavorful as you like. We have found that for the dry crumbs the seasoning blends / taste better if added to the bread before baking (you can always add more afterwords).
- Suggested seasoning combination:
- Salt, oregano and parsley.
- Garlic & parmigiano (optional: salt).
- Dry tomatoes, oregano and salt.
- Garlic and Paprika.
Be creative, if you or your family like a certain seasoning combination give it a try with breadcrumbs. Besides from breadcrumbs you can do bread croutons or bread chips and give the them the flavor and taste that your family loves and enjoy.
Remember that children can help, our girls love to help crumble the bread and drop it into the food processor, they also like to add seasoning and sometimes we end up with a new seasoning recipe. Bring the little ones into the kitchen and find out how much fun you can all have.
Note: Never toss old bread hard bread, you can always make breadcrumbs to be used for so many delicious dishes.
